Sounds very A-typical for someone to say money can buy happiness, but in some respects, being secure in your finances is important to being happy. Being poor and happy is awfully hard. Struggling from pay check to pay check, trying to make it, but not every really getting there. If you can find happiness without money, than good for you. But no matter what, money does make life easier sometimes and in fact harder if that's what people only see in you is $$$$. In fact... Happiness is what everyone wants but you can't always get there without money. That kind of outlook on reality makes this question truly tough to answer. Rich people are unhappy too. So are poor people. But I guess if you can achieve a happy medium between money and happiness than you can have both. It's all in the balance of things.

Truth is relative. Sometimes right is correct and sometimes left, it depends on where you are going. If you're poor, you might want to give up a few things that make you happy to get enough money. Since alcoholism is greatest among the rich and suicide among doctors, I would say that in their case, happiness is more important. If you always wanted to be a star to be famous and rich, many stars overdose on drugs to be happy and die. Then neither are important. What an interesting world. And the world of philosophy also.

The two main reasons for divorce in the United States are Money and Sex, in that order. Money can't buy you happiness and happiness can't buy you money. There needs to be an even medium between the two. When we're kids we can be as happy as we want and in love with someone who has nothing but lunch money in their pockets. But when we grow up and have our own houses and our own bills, we really need someone who is financial capable. They don't necessarily have to make the big bucks, they just have to be able to pull their weight in a relationship. Lack of money will cause stress in any relationship. so my answer is both money and happiness are important because i don't see a way that you can have one without the other.

Happiness, of course. People only think money is important because they believe more money can make them happier - the importance of money *depends upon* the importance of happiness.

I think, happiness is more important. There are people with a lot of money, but they are not happy. There are poor people who have meager means of living, but they are happy.
Money is important because we need it in our material life, we need it to sustain our material needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and all the comforts and luxuries in life and it also bring happiness. But, money, if it makes us selfish and if we use it to hurt others, bring loneliness and destruction, later.
Happiness, can be attained without having money. Just simple words of wisdom to comfort the sorrowful and to give hope to the desperate can bring happiness. A lending hand to the disabled or the sick, can also give happiness.
Though we need money for our material body, yet, happiness prevents illness, makes us young at heart, at peace, and money is not a prerequisite to have happiness. Love is!

Happiness is so much more important than money. For example, think about all of those artists and actors and musicians in New York City. There are so many of them, which is really great, but there aren't really enough jobs for all of them doing what they want to do. But they are still there because they love to paint of sculpt, write or act, or sing, or play an instrument. It makes them happy.
