A muckraker comes from person that "mucks" or cleans horse's stalls.
Common usage has this term being used to define a person that goes out and deliberately reveals bad things about other people, usually for political advantage.

President Teddy Roosevelt ~1906 was the one who coined the term 'muckraker' to describe the journalists who print gossip (true or false) about the private lives of public individuals.
