Like a toy model of something. What supplies do you need and stuff.

It depends what you want to make it out of. You can carve from soap, or you can glue toothpicks together to make the object, or you can use modeling clay, or magnet shards. or carve pieces from wood, or forge them from iron... it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

I wish you had given a little more detail on this as to what you want to build. I think Kacky has hit most of the high points.
Here are a few things to consider. Sheet styrene is great for modeling metal, the best way to model wood is wood. All objects are just basic shapes. Once you understand the basic structure and shape of something the rest is just details. Also don't be afraid to mix media. Some people build models that are all wood when metal or plastic for some items on the model would be better. I once built a wooden R/C boat, I later rebuilt it with sheet styrene on the decks. It didn't take as long as prepping the wood, and looked better. Remember when looking for building materials nothing is off limits and don't be afraid to experiment.
