First of all, get a better approach on this. Think of algebra as a challenge...but don't hate it.

When doing algebra, if it helps, take things that you like that you have a whole bunch of and make your problem out of that.

For instance, lets say that your trying to figure out what 'x' equals out of the problem: 3/4x-5=4

so, get some gum that you like and put 3 sticks over 4 sticks of gum and have some random object be 'x', now put down 5 sticks with a minus sign in front of it. Now draw an equal sign and put 4 sticks on the other side of it.
now the first thing you do is get rid of the 5 (one because of the order of operations, and two because it makes it easier to solve the rest of the problem). So take your 5 sticks and add it to the 4 (reason being is because if u take something from one side then u have to add it to the other, if you add something one side then you minus something from the other that is the same quantity).

so now you should have: 3/4x=9 (since 5+4=9)

now, multiply the 4 sticks by the 9 sticks and you will get 36 (because if you are dividing on one side then to get rid of it you have to multiply it on the other side, if you multiply on one side, then you divide it on the other).

so with that being said you have a problem that looks like this: 3x=36
so divide your 3 sticks by the 36 sticks and you get that 'x' equals 12.

just look at your problems as common sense, you want to do something that will make it easier to solve the rest of the equation so you add/subtract first, then depending on what is left of your equation you will divide or multiply second, then just solve it by doing the last bit of simple math. Math revolves around common sense, if you have that then math should get/ be easier.

Like any other big insurmountable problem, you break it down into a bunch of tiny little easy problems. In algebra, you can do that by posting problems here that are giving you trouble and asking for explanations. We'll do out best. But there is no way to answer the question you posted, it's way too vague.

Don't give up, it'll come if you put in the effort, attacking one problem at a time. And be grateful that you're not me, getting my azz kicked in calculus by a CalTech-wannabe prof.

Good luck - GH

Two suggestions:

First - go to the teacher, and ask for help NOW. Don't wait a week until you're buried under even more stuff you don't understand. Do it today.

Second - remember that any action that you do on the left side of the equal sign has to be done on the right side, and it has to be done in the proper way.

apparently, grammar and spelling would be in the same category as algebra.
