simple

1) measure the volume and weight of the water in a huge tank.

2) put the whale into the tank
since obviously the water level will rise, this leads me to my third point

3)weight of whale = upthrust

upthrust can be calculated by volume of water that is displaced multiply density of the fluid (in this case water) and then multiply gravity which is 9.81m/s^square

A really big scale! they put the whale in one of those canvas things they use to lift large sea animals and attach a scale to crane. That is the only way I could think to do it because displacement does not weigh something it give you the mass or size of something.

If you have a tank with a known amount of water, the weight of the whale can be calculated by the displacement of water.

If the whale is in the sea, then a bloody good guess based on it's size. (cor! look at that one, must be about a ten tonner!)

Doh!
At a 'whale weigh' station.

At a whale-weigh station! Takes four skin-divers to circumcise one, oddly enough.

At a whale weigh station of course !

(Can't believe I'm the first one to post this old chestnut!)

You could put it in a big tank full of water and measure the amount displaced. Then do some basic physics calculations which i have temporarily forgotten.

Whales are quite sensitive creatures so be discreet about its weight.

Put it into a harness attached to the weighing scales.
