IT NEVER RAINS BUT IT POURS -
"One stroke of good (or ill) fortune is often followed by many other instances of luck (or misfortune) when you least expect them.
The proverb dates back to the eighteenth century. In 1726, English physician John Arbuthnot (1667-1735), published a book entitled 'It Cannot Rain But It Pours.'
Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) and Alexander Pope (1688-1744) collaborated on an essay entitled 'It Cannot Rain But It Pours.' The saying has been use ever since.

Something bad doesn't happen alone, it comes in a big group.
E.g.
What with all the recent disasters happening in the world right now; typhoon in Taiwan, hurricane in Americas and earthquake in Peru, this is a good time to declare, "it never rains but pours".

"When it rains it pours" is the motto found with the logo of a little child in raingear on the packages of Leslie salt. The salt will pour even if it seems too moist for it to do so.

A literal explination for raining cats and dogs is that during heavy rains in 17-century England some city streets became raging rivers of filth carrying many dead cats and dogs

when something goes wrong..they keep going wrong. it's one thing after another so when it rains (one thing going bad) it pours (more things go bad like a snow ball effect)
or in another way to say it..bad things happen in 3's. just saying things happen in groups.

it's actually 'when it rains it pours'.
It means that nothing ever happens in small doses - if it happens, it happens in a big way.

That was (I think) Morton's Salt. When it gets very humid, salt sticks. Their salt poured even when it rained. A really good slogan.
