My girlfriend's mother was kind enough, just out of the blue, to give me her old clamshell Nokia 6102i cell phone. Most everything works as it should, except for the backlight, which turns off when the screen is pushed past a certain point, or even, sometimes, if the phone is opened too quickly. Occasionally, I will be typing or scrolling through menus, and the light will annoyingly pulsate (i.e. turn off and on rapidly). Is there any way to fix this myself, or will I have to send the phone to Nokia for repair?

If you are mechanically inclined with small intricate parts you might succeed. Get a Torx screwdriver # 6, remove the battery, find back screws remove them. Carefully remove the main board and you'll see where the "finger from clam closing" strikes a foil disk. With Qtip and rubbing alcohol carefully clean that foil contact.

you can try a "hard shock". leave the phone on and remove the battery for 60-90 seconds then replace and power it up. if this doesn't work, and you don't have a lot of info saved to the phone you can do a master reset. if neither of these options work you will need a replacement. repair would not be cost effective. also when you have the battery removed look for a white, pink or red sticker inside the phone. if it's pink or red your rhone has liquid damage. if this is the case try removing the SIM card and battery and letting it sit open for 3 days.
