Apart from reality I'd assign the worst monsters to genre of
H.P. Lovecraft. An entire scope of horrific were none too
kind for mankind. It is not politically correct reading either.
Readers get slapped around on several levels. Film hasn't
captured graphic terror of the pages yet but I'd expect some
revulsion from critics if animated work is true to actual text.
Consider yourself warned. Keep it away from the immature.

The Manananggal, a creature in my country's (Philippines) folklore. It is said to be the upper half of a woman with entrails sticking out of the bottom and has wings sprouting from its back. It likes to suck out the internal organs and often does so with its long tongue. Not only scary.. but disgusting. Cuz of that I don't plan on hiking through a remot forest in my homeland's provinces at night. (T-T)

Humans - their minds can design such unimaginable horror at a moments notice. Can devour whole forrests in less than a day, consume more food and produce more waste in 12 hrs than anything on earth, and still make idols to worship unto themselves with justification of their egos that they can inflate at will!

Shadow creatures. I forgot the name of them, sorry about that. But they're like spirits. They could linger in your home without you knowing because they're so silent. Heck typing this answer is freaking me out too.
