The d/w should NOT be in a GFCI outlet (nor should a refrigerator) because electrically, they are essentially pumps, and the surge caused by a pump will 'trip' a GFCI circuit, so check that out first: buy a GFCI circuit tester (about $8), the kind that plugs into a receptacle and has a black button on top that when you press it, will trip a GFCI. The tester also has a little chart on it that tells you which lights on the front of the tester are indicating the electrical configuration/wiring of your outlet, i.e., 'open ground or 'hot/neutral reverse,' etc. Once you figure out if you have a GFCI circuit or not, and how the outlet is wired, go to www.appliancerepair.com and check out their info. 7 years is probably an acceptable life-span for a d/w and repairing it still leaves you with a 7-year old d/w. And sometimes, all other electrical problems resolved, it's the computer control board, behind the buttons, that has gone bad...get estimates before any repair, I'll bet that a new d/w is in your future!

When you say the power goes off, do you mean the fuse blows or circuit breaker trips?

Do you mean the power light on the Dishwasher goes off?

Please clarify.

One thing to check though:

Make your drain is completely clear. If it is obstructed, the dishwasher oftens stops at the rinse cycle.

Good Luck.

7 yrs. is old for your GE dishwasher. We had a Profile in our last home and that was about the time it started to malfunction. It's easier to get a new one and a quieter one!! The plumber confirmed the age issue when he was installing our new one.

Try RepairClinic.com., They sell service parts & have gurus to help diagnose the problem.
Sounds like it might just be the timer module.
Best regards.
