It's a lot more difficult to ignore them on your own question, than on someone else's. I hate it when people make obscene remarks which are irrelevant to the question, just for the sake of making them. That's real bullying. And Yahoo has NEVER responded to any report I ever made of obscene abuse - even really horrible stuff like sex with children or animals, both of which are actually illegal - so I gave up reporting it, although it pollutes the page. And when it's your own question, it spoils the fun of getting the answers. I once withdrew a question, as the only way I knew to be sure of removing the obscene stuff from the page. But that was unfair on the person who would have won ten points, and let the obscene bully win.

At the other end of the spectrum, people who pick on other people's spelling are also bullies, in their own way.

I think the online bullies are probably very passive in real life. I also have a theory that all the annoying trolls that post fake questions, probably have another account where they're normal and ask/answer questions normally and (somewhat) respectfully.

Freedom of speech is one thing, but overstepping the line and causing distress to another person is quite different.
We can't name names on here but if you search hard enough, possibly even look in the unresolved question section, you can soon find out who causes the most trouble and who joins in

Haven't really come across any bullies, just some nasty remarks, but you should treat them with the contempt they deserve.

Jimporary I have also reported questions/answers because of instances of child sex, sex with animals and incest etc, but again nothing was done about it.

Don't remember what the nasty little trolls call themselves. But they're usually rt. wing wackos claiming "patriotism" and go on to sound and act like they're card carrying members of the Taliban eager to show anyone the picture of them be-heading somebody.

I only stand up to bullies if I spot one. They need to be told and brought down a peg or two.
