Hi, the answer will be a lengthy one, but I hope you will see it.

The easiest way to interpret this is to see yourself outside of the entire universe and time. Try to see the entire existence of the universe over time as a magnetic tape of which the read/write head is your consciousness and the place on the tape determines your place in time.

If you would be able to place the read/write head to another spot of the tape you would have time traveled, as you suggests you did.

The read/write head is reading the contents of the tape and adjusting it to its will (that is YOU) having changed the contents for the other read/write heads that are present behind you on the tape.

Do you now realize how powerful you are? You are changing the future for others behind you, but you can not change the present for others ahead of you. The future will remain as it was for the others there, but for the ones going there it will be different.

You are just rewriting the book of existence, as we all are.

in the first place, time travel is impossible............in the second place if u manage to kill ur parents, u will just would not be born and if u are not born u can't kill ur parents and if u can't kill ur parents u would be born and if u would be born u could kill ur parents so it's impossible to say if u could even meet the people u know in the past but if u kill ur parents there might be a chance that u will stay suspended in the past.......................and lol the hypothesis of a time travel machine has been here for decades any person with a decent IQ can figure out time travel is impossible the universe is made of 4 dimensions all related to each other like a fabric if u rip one the possibility that u don't rip the other are very small so u can't time travel without ending up in a different part of the universe and if we can really manage to rip this fabric we cannot control it there are endless possibilities

There are a few schools of thought on time travel, but this is an interesting concept.

Let's say you did go back and killed your dad. The second you killed him, you would cease to exist because then you never would have been born. But the second this happens, your dad couldn't possibly be dead, because if you weren't born, who killed him? And if your dad wasn't dead, then you would exist again.

Either you would end the universe by basically starting a infinite logic loop, or it would just be physically impossible to kill him based on the rules of 4-dimensional travel.

You would go into an endless loop with two outcomes.
First time you kill you parents, and you are never born hence you can't kill them. Second loop you are born and you do kill them cycling you back to the first loop. Kinda like living the movie "Groundhog Day" with two endings.

The parents would die.

But then the person wouldn't be born!

But then the person wouldn't be able to go back to kill their parents!

But....

My God! I think you just stumbled upon a flaw in the possibility of time travel..... Genius!!

I bet the theoretical physicists at Cambridge will be seriously embarrassed!

first of all, going back in time is impossible. There's something called the heinsburg (sp?) uncertainty principle that says you can predict one of two things about a particular particle: either the expected time of arrival, or the place it will arrive at. You would need to know both for any sort of time travel to be possible.

and, if you killed your parents before you were born... well... you would not be born. My apologies in advance for this comment, but... DUH!

Well, for one, people can not go back in time. Two, if he kill his parents i guess he would die the same time he's doing the very act. What kind of question is that anyway? (i'm bored that's why i give it my attention)

Physics denies the ability to go back in time. Even if someone did go back in time, why would they kill their parents? BUt if they did by mistake, immedately they would die.

The best way to learn is to watch 'Back to the Future'.

How could you kill someone that hasn't been born???

if you mean kill your parents before you where born... well

if you could go to the past by time travel, you will create and instantaneous parallel universe where you could kill "your" parents and they will just die in that parallel universe and nothing will happend to you. but the other you, the one that hasn't been born in that parallel universe well... he would never get born. obviusly-

this point is where you travel to the past
.....v
-------------------------------------> your time line
.....\
.......\-------------------------> the new time line where u kill your parents.

He'd be stuck in a time warp unable to come out in the present since he has no parents.
