A family of 64-bit CPUs from Intel that were introduced in mid-2006. Core 2 CPUs are the first chips to use Intel's Core microarchitecture. Core 2 Duo chips are dual-core models for mainstream desktop and notebook computers.. Note that Core 2 Duo and Core Duo chips (without the "2") are not the same (see Intel Core).

Duo core is mostly the Celerons, i think. another name for it is Dual core. It is new technology where the processor literally goes twice as fast as a normal processor, because it has two cores instead of one. so a 1.7GHZ Duo core (TK-53) goes at 3.4GHZ.
