When a foreigner commits a serious crime,Why don't they deport him straight away and not until the end of there sentence as it seems more practical to deport before as it would not cost the country so much, and would decrease the over crowded prison a little?

I agree, I think they should be tried and sentenced in the country they commit the crime and then deported back to their home country to serve sentence so THEIR taxpayers can foot the bill. There is a huge problem in the UK with overcrowded prisons, and something needs to be done quickly to alleviate it.

I really think the government would be in better hands run by Joe Public.

On the face of it, your statement it makes commonsense.

However, you have to separate the immigration and criminal roles. A term of imprisonment may be given by a Court following conviction of a crime punishable by imprisonment. This is part of the justice system and how the state deals with those who have committed what are deemed to be criminal offences in the UK. You will need to bear in mind that what constitutes an offence in the UK may not be an offence in the person's home country or if it is, may be regarded to be a less serious offence. Marital rape is one such example.

However, there are bi-lateral treaty arrangements between countries that allow offenders to serve their sentences in their home countries, but these are normally voluntary arrangements.

Removal or deportation from the UK is not a punishment and a person can only be required to leave the country, where they do not have leave to remain or enter and are subject to immigration control or is in the national interest and does not breach the person's refugee convention, European convention on human rights or EEA treaty rights.

I think if they have committed a crime they should be punished for it in this country for it.
Then when they are released they should not have any rights to claim asylum even if the human rights brigade fight on their behalf. They have not proved they are going to be an asset to us so WHY should WE let unsavoury people stay here to repeat their crime. Other countries do not let people into their lands if they have a record of crime,
I hope our government will open their eyes.

We also have a problem with people that have been deported that come back here with a forged passport the only way around this is to start the Iris test on eyes when they entered the country. It could also be used in benefit offices and a number of places to stop multi claims, also hospitals and dentist and doctors as they are going to need treatment at some stage and illegals can then be picked up.

To deport a foreign criminal rather than imprison them would require common sense and political will/bravery - all commodities sadly lacking in UK. The current Human Rights Act should be repealed with immediate effect so that the rights of the victim can once again be more important than the rights of the criminal.

Because laws are different in different countries, and so are the sentences given out for crimes. Therefore if a person was sent home immediately, they might never be punished at all, or recieve a very different sentence. Makes sense to me that if someone commits a crime within the UK against UK citizens, they should be punished as the UK sees fit.

It might help if potential criminals knew that they would be deported, and the family should be deported too, I know this sounds draconian but family pressure would stop a lot of them offending in the first place.

The main reason is because if they are deported prior to serving their sentence there is no guarantee that they will actually serve that sentence in their homeland, which would mean that they get off without punishment.

Because everyone deserves their day in court regardless of what their legal status is. Whether someone is here illegally, temporary visa, or is permanent legal resident with a green card, etc it would be a violation of human and civil rights to just deport them without a fair trail and conviction. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty.

Yeah, people want these people to be deported and imprisoned in their own country and instead they are imprisoned here and then offered asylum when they get released

Where is the justice

Punishments are set because of the crime. There is no reason to let a criminal off scott free. Bad idea. There would be nothing to stop the criminal from coming back to the US. We still have unsecured borders.
