I heard they started using KFC because they don't use pure chicken. The chicken is so altered that it can't really be marketed as such. The restaurant couldn't be accused of false advertising, so they switched to KFC.

I was told back when it happened that Kentucky Fried Chicken was changing to K.F.C. because about that time there was a big drive going on to make people become more conscious of the dangers of eating too much fried foods. They didn't want to totally lose their identity, but they were reeeeally anxious to lose that word Fried. Everybody knew that K.F.C. still stood for Kentucky Fried Chicken but the human mind is an odd thing. As long as people were not actually seeing the word Fried, they liked the product enough that they could feel somehow better about eating it.
A lot of big companies, not only in the food business but all kinds of other sales, actually employ trained psychologists to help them maximize their sales through a better understanding of the way people's minds work. It has been successfully used by big supermarkets for the correct placement of their products either front, or back of the store, and high, or low on the aisle shelves. Color, and packaging design can also make a huge difference to public acceptance or rejection of a product.
LOL, it seems we are a lot more predictable than we want to think we are.

They changed there name to KFC b-cuz they couldn't use Kentucky fried Chicken no more b-cuz it is not really from Kentucky, so it doesn't seem like a big change and as you can see people think it is really short for Kentucky Fried Chicken which in reality it stands for Kitchen Fried Chicken.

I was working there in 1991 when the change trickled down to the store. And yes, it was to help people get over the fact they were going to a place that would fry the hell out of a bird. at that same time, Long John Silvers stopped giving that crispy fried stuff that lines the bottom of the basket. That didn't last long.

Kentucky Fried Chicken changed its name to the initials many years ago because of the word "Fried" was, in their mind, keeping customers away.
Recently they have changed their oils in the cooking process to eliminate the transfats. they have not changed the seasonings or anything like that. It does taste a little different, but I am happy with just scarfing down their mash potatos and gravy....yummmm

For the same reason Burger King keeps using the BK name and Long John Silver's started using LJS. Shorter names and initials are trendy right now. The only one I don't see doing it is Taco Bell. Who wants to eat at a place called TB?

i think the change in the taste is due too the change in the oil they fry in..the government made all the fast food joints stop using high trans fat oils..it has dramatically changed the taste of McDonald's fries also

Marketing...people had a bad association with "Fried" so they just shortened it. I don't eat it. They feed their chickens steroids and they get so big their feet can't handle the weight. Horrible animal cruelty. You should look into it.

KFC changed their oil to a non trans fat oil. Now it's is so greasy and I hate it. I guess it's better for you, but I won't go there again. Plus check out peta, they are cruel to their chickens.
