Is he holding out for so much guaranteed money because he realizes he is too stupid to make it as a QB in the NFL?

ESPN always takes the player's side no matter what.

The Raiders want the guarenteed money spread out and a play clause in the contract for the monies. Russell wants it all up front even before he takes a snap and wants it no matter what. So he can get his 40 mil and then pull a Vick/Pacman and never take a hit in the NFL. Davis needs to move the money to the 3rd year and Russell needs to sign the no Vick clause and get to playing. The way hes going now he might just end up back in the draft next year and fall to 7th round. For the people that said he needs his money cause he will get beat up behind the non existant O line you havent been watching pre season have you? The O line might not be great but the new zone blocking is giving the QBs more time in the pocket and alot less time on their backs than last season. Russell should be happy he got picked to play in the NFL and actually negotiate with the Raiders and get on the field and show everyone that he is worth the money hes asking for. If he isnt...well i hear that atlanta needs a QB .

He hasn't even played a down in the NFL yet. He's just being greedy. Al Davis has no problem spending money for good players. He's just reluctant to risk a bunch of money on an unproven player. I don't like the Raiders, but I like what they're doing in this situation. Player salaries are starting to get out of hand. I hope Russell misses the whole season.

I remember reading an article recently on ESPN where the problem is Al Davis and how he is attempting to structure the payout of the guaranteed portion of Russell's money. He wants the bulk of it to be payed after the fifth year, but the thing that is worng is that in all probability he will either be cut or recontracted by that time thus loosing that portion of the current contract funds , so it is guaranteed money only on paper now, which if structured the way Davis wants, he would probably NEVER see that money!

The raiders O Line is SO bad he needs to get as much $$$ as he can becuase whoever is the QB behind that line will stink to high hell.

He knows he is going to be horrible and take a beatdown in the process, so why not get the $$$ now since he will be a backup journeyman QB in 3-4 yrs anyway

He is being greedy.. and now that he's missed this much of camp he'll see garbage time only.

I am all for a set rookie contract. This would solve ANY disputes, as well as make the player prove himself in the NFL before he can get the big $.

The problem is not Russell...the problem is a team not negotiating a deal in principle with the number one pick before they stupidly drafted him thinking he would take comparable money to last years #1 pick, who was not a QB.

Probably a little of both-He wants to make the most of a payday if he flops, and he knows the Raiders don't have an O Line...

Would you want to quarterback the Raiders and not get payed for it. It is just asking to be flop. Get his money while he can before trying to lead an inept team.
