I think the Beatles reached out more people than the King. The King mainly stayed in the US, while the Beatles were touring the world. Touring means reaching out to more people. The Beatles may have idolized the King (John Lennon in particular) but it doesn't mean that the KIng is much more influencial. See Elvis did a rendition of the Beatle hit "Yesterday". See the point?
Much more artist cover the Beatle hits (with Yesterday being the most covered song of all time) because it seems timeless and will always be that, And I would readily admit that Elvis was a great proponent of the rock n' roll movement but the Beatles improved it so much (especially during the 'studio years' were they incorporated the use of orchestra, horns, trumpets, wax paper, comb, an alarm clock and the infamous sitar parts by George Harisson) that their music still stands today and seems to be fresh always (like my favorite 'The Long and Winding Road' song).

Elvis and the Beatles were both great but I think that the Beatles affected more people with their music. Now I know that Elvis is no longer living but then either is George Harrison or John Lennon, today Paul McCartney and even years ago when Ringo Star had his All Star Band and they would go on tour, the venues that they would play at would be packed with people who just wanted to be able to say "I saw a Beatle perform today." The Beatles and Elvis were both great, but I believe the Beatles affected more people.

Elvis
The true measure of Elvis Presley's impact on society and memory is his indelible link to the expansive decade of the 50s'. All the politicians, inventors and celebrities pale in comparison. Although he was so young, and his time had come later in the decade, Elvis still stands as the defining figure of his time. And his legacy continues to effect and influence the music business today. Every year RCA delivers a new package of his hits, the sound and fury of the performances have a similar ring. Many of today's artists, even those who write their own material, have learned a thing or two from The King's passion in expressing the message of a song, and the infinite marriage it holds for its singer.

I think the Beatles affected more people b/c rock& roll was more mainstream by the time they became popular. Their music was fresh and original.
Elvis influenced a lot of the musicians that came after him. And let's face it, the white musicians of Elvis' time ripped off the blues being played by the Blacks.

Elvis. He not only affected the young, but the older generation as well. Elvis's music or memory will never die.

Beatles had and still have larger world impact, then Elvis, but they were influenced by him, as well as by other performers.
