to think about the 2 million other families who r dealing with their kids going missing? I know the maddy situatoin is terrible but does anybody realise there are mthousands and thousands of children out there who have been taken and possibly tortured and killed whose families haven't a clue. i do find it a bit unfair that the mccanns are getting so much help when u dont see the authorities giving this much assistance to the millions of other poor families whose kids have gone missing. i hope the mccanns thank god the authorities are giving them a hand. i dont think they realise how lucky they are.
I think the justice system has messed up yet again tho. why give so much help to one family when millions of others are receiving none?
btw im not slagging the mccanns off. they are lucky to have the help.

i realise that the way in which maddy went missing was different to many other cases but nomatter how these kids run away, may it be after a family feaud or just being a spoilt brat, the bottom line is the kids are MISSING exactly the same way maddy is. the circumstances shouldnt matter. if a child is missing it is missing and should be dealt with with the utmost priority and depth.

If only every one had an ounce of the sincerity you have. So many people miss the bigger picture. Its a very sad and cruel world we live in. Thank you for making me realise that there are some genuine human beings out there.

You criticise the justice system. I'm not sure what they have to do with it. The police were actually criticised for the way they initially handled the investigation and their failure to preserve the crime scene. A combination of criticism of that failure and media coverage of the case elevated it to the level we have seen, as well as the determination of the parents to keep it in the public eye, perhaps, whatever their public declarations, out of guilt.
You are right there are many other missing children but as far as I am aware, internationally the authorities got involved in Belgium and Morocco because of supposed sightings, otherwise I think we should be careful not to imagine that the coverage is necessarily reflected in action by authorities elsewhere. Nor despite some heavy criticism in the Portuguese press about the McCanns have I seen anyone report anger about police resources devoted to the case and the absence of resources given to another missing child in Portugal. A justifiable criticism that I'm sure would have been reported.

I agree fully that we should all take time to consider all the millions of children in the world that go missing, their family and friends that are in constant pain, who don't have their cases profiled around the globe.
We should also be aware of child protection and to keep our guard up for anything that seems suspicious, so what if we're classed as nosey, far better than being complacent about children's welfare.

That just it, they have to be seen doing the right thing. I couldn't believe it when i read in a national newspaper about the amount of kids that going missing on weekly basis. Its awful and scary. I'm a mother myself.
Yes I do agree with you here.
Fingers are still crossed for Maddy

Every missing child is a tragedy. But most of those children are rnaways or children who are caught in a custody battle. Remember, those stats too, are for children under the age of 18. The reality is very few children are taken the way Madeleine McCann was.
However, I think your question does highlight a dreadful gap in society, where children have no option but to run away from home. And you're right - maybe we need to give children an option other than prostitution, drugs, etc etc. Our society stinks - we need to value our children more.

Agree totally. A cute picture and video of your child can get you acres of media coverage and help from the police. It may sound cynical but it's true - this volume of help should be offered to each and every family of a missing person, but unfortunately, unless it captures the media's attention, it rarely happens

As much as i agree with your thoughts for the other missing children, i don't think its unfair that Madeleine gets so much coverage. Its a good thing. There cannot be too much of it.
Madeleine's parents have striven, on the basis of advice from experts, to spread awareness of their Madeleine and they have, regardless of the flak & accusations they have received for it.
Ultimately, she is their own little girl & every parent will put their own first. Wouldn't you? i would.
We should never grudge Madeleine or any missing child the efforts put in to get them back.
This awareness, however, could be used to highlight the heartbreaking cause of missing children the world over.
