There are really two kinds of Druids.
Ancient Druids who were the pirestly class of the ancient Celts. They were written about by Pliny, Caesar, early Christian monks, etc. They were the lawyers, learned men, and priests of the Celts back before the time of Christ. They considered their teaching too sacred to write down (though they were literate) so much of what they knew is lost
Modern day Druids - usually reconstructionists of some variety. Some modern day Druid orders are actually pretty old, tracing their liniage back to the 1700's (though they will claim they can trace back to antiquity - but that is just fantasy).
In the United States, the largets Druid organization is a group called te ADF - lol, which stands for three gaelic words that I can't spell or pronounce. They started back in the 60's with Isaac Bonewits as one of their founders.

The Druids were the intelligensia of the ancient Celts. They filled the roles of priest, judge, historian, and scientist. Many also filled a shamanic type of role, being skilled in divination, herbalism, and magical poetry. Their power waned with the invasion of Rome into Celtic lands, and the subsequent coming of Christianity, though a portion of Druidic techniques survived for hundreds of years after that.
Modern Druid orders do exist, but their origins start more in the 18th century than anywhere else. Some of the neo-Druid orders are performing scholarly research to rebuild the ancient practices as much as possible.
In a gaming sense, early game designers decided to take a few concepts from the ancient Druids - and quite a few misconceptions - and then toss them into a world full of magic. Generally, from a gaming sense, a Druid is master of the natural world, skilled in magic over plants and animals, and quite often able to shapeshift into an assortment of animal forms.

Druids still exist. In fact I know one.
An ancient Celtic order of priests, teachers, diviners, and magicians. The name itself is thought to relate to an oak tree or drus. Julius Caesar reports that the Druids met annually at a site believed to be the centre of Gaul; he also mentions a Chief Druid. The only detailed account of a Druidic ceremony we have was recorded by another Roman writer. It occurred at the time determined by the growth of mistletoe on an oak. A druid in a white robe climbed the tree and cut with ‘a golden sickle’ the branch of mistletoe, which was caught as it fell on a white cloak. Two white bulls were then sacrificed, and a feast took place. The meaning of this rite, like much else connected with this priesthood, remains obscure

They also attend the summer Solstice event at Stonehenge.

Greetings!
Game creators do a lot of research, and you will find that the "Druid" class combines many abilities, and includes some that others just don`t have-just like in Real Life.
Now-a-Days Druids are still willing to find the Reality behind Nature, the Truth Against the World.

Druidism is a paganistic religion practiced the world over. It centers on worship of the god and goddess, and focuses on a strong reverence for nature. In ancient brittan, before the coming of the christians, they were revered, as the holiest, and wisest of people. Even if two clans were at war, a druid could pass freely between them settling disputes, playing music, dispensing healing herbs, and telling stories. Stories were among the most revered traditions of the Druids, as nothing was ever written down but passed on by retelling over the course of the centuries. They also ran universities. People would come from all over the world to study at a Druidic university.
And Virgil- the uneducated masses of the church may have culled the Druids, and burned their groves during their reign of fanaticism and fear but Jesus himself was educated at a Druidic university as a boy.

well there r 2 types of druids. Druids of the Talon and Druids of the Claw. Druids fo the Talon can be trained at the Ancient of Wind and can turn into Storm Crows. Druids of the Claw are trained at the Ancient of Lore and can turn into Bears. Both are stronger in their animal form nd can have up graded attack and defence by reasearching the right upgrade at the Hunters Hall. Druids can also cast spells Talons can cast Faerie Fire which makes the enemy units visable to you, and Cyclone which summons a cyclone that hurls the enemy into the air, has to be researched. and Claws can learn Roar which adds a bonus attack to your units and rejuvenation which restores health to a single unit.
