This may sound a little crazy but I was somewhat offended, the subject had come up at work oneday about which 1 of my parents was indian, and ironically I picked up most of the indian traits, the long black hair, thick black eyebrows, lightskin.and my one co-worker said no they both are black you look a plain ole black girl. I dont care if i look black, blue or burgandy, But why do I have to look like a PLAIN OLE BLACK GIRL. WHY CANT I JUST LOOK LIKE A BLACK GIRL?? She did not have to call me a plain ole black girl!!!

I am sure she meant no offense although it was a poor choice of phrase. Perhaps she should have said it differently but I think what she meant was that you do not look unusual or odd.

I dont know whats going on in the world but are you proud or are you not proud of who you are??

Sounds like you like being black and mixed with something else and now your offended when somebody calls you plain black. Does it offend you when somebody tells you that your ethnicity isnt that significant??

In answering your question you are as black as you want to be. And some people will see you as mixed or as plain depending on what their definition of "PLAIN BLACK" means.

Since I am multiracial myself, I am put off by some Americans whose simplistic view of race means they try to categorize me into their limited niches, even if it's wrong. I'm mostly Asian, but my height, my curly hair and parts of my features often make people call me Latina. When I am asked to explain my legacy, I have had people tell me just to call myself Puerto Rican...even though I've only visited as a tourist and neither of my families' histories originate from there.

Even when people don't mean it out of spite, they like to peg people and don't realize how limiting that mindset can be. Just be true to yourself and tell them that just because it's easier for them to think that way, it doesn't make it true.

Deep down they hate being who they are, they really dont have an identity. They take and steal from others and are not very creative. That statment was made to out wit u. Dont worry, there time will come
