An audio book is a recording of a book, usually by a professional narrator. They come in two forms of narration, abridged and unabridged. Abridged means edited and shortened for recording, unabridged is the full unedited text of a book.
You can download them online from lots of places in mp3 format, or you can buy them in any bookstore on tapes and cds. You can also get them free from your library or download them free from your local library website.
They may help you with your concentration if it's a story you like and a good narrator you like to listen to. Sometimes great stories are ruined for me by a terrible narrator, sometimes a great narrator makes a bad story enjoyable.
If you want to increase your reading skills it may help you to have a paper copy of a book in addition to the audio book and follow along with the narrator.
If you are listening to an audio book for a school project be double sure the version you're listening to is unabridged.

Like The Other Guy Said, An Audio Book Is Just That Darl, A Book That Has Been Read And Is Either On Tape Or CD Which You Can Listen to At Your Leisure but You Can Also Follow By Reading It Yourself If You Get The Book Also?
Don't Give Up On Books, I'm Dyslexic And Find It Very Hard To Keep Interest In The Written Word. I Found It Helps If I Know The Story, Inspector Rebus For Example. We Had The TV Show And I Found The Books That Had Been On TV And Found It Easier To Read Them Than Ones Which Hadn't.

An Audio Book is a story on cassette tapes or, more common these days, CDs.
Most are just read by one person, but some are full cast dramatisations.
Some are recorded in full, others are abridged to make them fit - and a few of the abridged ones have been badly edited!
My mum listens to audio books, as she doesn't have enough time to sit and read these days. She listens to them when she goes to bed, and when getting ready for work in the morning.
The description here is for most audio books. There are also some childrens ones {usually Disney}, where a paperback book is also provided, for the child to read along with the tape.

An audiobook (or talking book) is a recording of a text being read. A reading of the complete text is noted as "unabridged", while readings of a reduced version, or abridgement of the text are labeled as "abridged".
Spoken audio has been available in schools and public libraries and to a lesser extent in music shops since the 1930s. Many spoken word albums were made prior to the age of videocassettes, DVDs, compact discs, and downloadable audio, however often of poetry and plays rather than books. It was not until the 1980s that the medium began to attract book retailers, and then book retailers started displaying audiobooks on bookshelves rather than in separate displays.

And audio book is usually a CD you just pop in and someone is reading you the book. You just have to be careful because many audio books are abridged so you aren't getting 100% of the story.
I've never tried an audio book, but I would imagine I would have a hard time focusing after more than just a few minutes. I do better when I can read it for myself.

Most people have less concentration with audio. Perhaps you're just reading material that isn't fit for you, or you're using too much energy before reading. Anyway, an audio book is basically the audio form of books. People will read out the text for you through a cassette/cd

A great way to read a book (by listening) when you could not read a book. When going for a walk, cleaning the house, riding your bike, sitting in a bus or plane, or commuting - you can be "reading" a book. Seems a much better use of your time than listening to music.

It's a book on CD or tape. You can listen to it anywhere, but I don't advise listening in your car, since that's very distracting and may cause an accident. You can borrow audio tapes from your library, buy them in any book or electronics store that sells CD's, or buy them online. I can't see how listening to them will help you to read. Reading takes practice, just like sports or playing a musical instrument. The more you do it, the better at it you become, and the easier it is to do.

No it will; not because it is sort of the easiest type of book because someone is reading it to you an audio book is an audio recording that can be listened to on a portable music player.
