Up until recently it kinda worked the other way around.

Weren't you just saying women should cook and clean and hold baby avatars?

I was kinda feelin' I was getting a list of all the things I Should do because I am a woman.

I guess there's a part of me that gets piqued when I'm told I can't do something based on my sex. Doesn't happen often though.

Recently at work we've been having a lot of commercial duct cleaning come in. A lot at prevailing wage. I told my boss I'd like to work one or two of those prevailing wage jobs. (I'm the office manager.)

He laughed.

I guess I'm not offended. It is nasty work.

Sometimes people's perception of gender biased activities works in my favor.

I love having the door opened for me. I love not carrying in the groceries. I Love not changing the oil on the car. And we just bought mechanical pencils, so I don't have to sharpen my pencils and endanger myself at work anymore.

So, as long as whoever is making this assesment isn't being just silly, I guess I am not offended.

Hi,
It really depends on what it is and how well I know myself. Also who's telling me this and what their motives are. (I take it, your question probably refers to men telling women they aren't capable of something).
Recently my husband and son were working in the garden and I went to help them carry a very very heavy boulder and was told to stay away. The reason: if it fell on me it would really do me an injury and if it damaged my hands I wouldn't be able to work. Good reasons to me, and I took a step back. There were plenty other things I could do to help. I was not offended.
Where I do feel insulted is in areas where 'men' think they can run things better than women, or the lack of respect some men show to a woman at the top of an organisation because (in their attitude) a woman hasn't the ability, intelligence or experience to handle the job as well as a man. (There are some men like this about!)
Last week I was voted to take over as chairman (woman) of our local village hall and this surprised me as I expected the position to (as usual) go to a man. Many of our villagers are quite old-fashioned in their ways so I take this as a sign of their respect and faith in me and I find this both refreshing and gratifying.

No, because that statement is not true. I can do anything I want. It doesn't make sense to get offended by something that is false. However, I feel extremely sorry for those who say women cannot do certain things. Why? It makes their lack of intelligence appear even larger than it already is.

Of course I am Sandstorm, any woman would be due to a gender factor...Of course some physical things I cannot do like a man, lack of the strength, but still no one likes to be told they can't do something,period...=)

Of course not. I'm not stupid and it's a simple fact of life. I can't do everything a man can't. Men can't do everything a woman can either - like giving birth...

I don't get offended, but at the same time, I do whatever I can to disprove the notion.
