I have to say that Capt' Mainwaring is my favourite character with Corporal Jones a close second. My least favourite character is the Verger (forgotten his name) you know, the one who wears the flat cap and accompanies the Vicar.
Great show, British comedy at its best. Timeless classic that will never date.

Yes it IS a timeless classic and very watchable because people remember what happened all those years ago and this is a lighthearted slant on serious issues from those years. Also no swearing or violence to speak of, typically British. My fav is (and not remembering his name, most annoying!) the guy who tried to get things on the black market like chocolate and nylon stockings, for a price of course! Most irritating was the warden who wore the white helmet. Always pouring cold water on every good idea.

I always love Sgt Wilson the wonderfully laid back John Le Mesurier, he always seemed as though he was dreaming of a lovely beach somewhere, drinking a cocktail with a Blonde on his arm. I only was irritated with Pike because he was such a twit, but the actor Ian Lavender, apologies if that isn't right! was a lovely guy in real life.

Captn Mainwaring and Sgt Wilson are my favourites - the relationship between these two characters was very finely drawn - but I love the whole ensemble. Each and every one of the "platoon" was a superb character actor with a wealth of acting experience behind them. The scripts were excellent, not only providing engaging plots but also fleshing out the characters, with added insight into their psyche and motivation.
The only character who irritated me was Private Cheeseman (heavily stereotyped Welshman with dreadful buck teeth) who, thankfully, was only featured in later episodes.
Otherwise, memorable characters, memorable actors, you just wish they could have gone on and on .....

Sgt Wilson is brilliant.
Most irritating was Mr Cheeseman who tried to replace Walker.

I used to think I was like Sergeant Wilson, but now I'm becoming more like Private Godfrey and the vicar.

Only Mrs Fox is mildly irritating, every other character is so well defined, and I think they're all great, even Mrs Fox!
Don't panic...

Sgt Fraser "We're doomed" is my fave. Clive Dunn is brilliant as Jones, but he can drive me round the bend.

Love them all.

Haven't seen it in ages! Too bad they don't make them like that anymore.
