Surely that is a contradiction?

for clarification
some users on here have been described as paedophiles for coming out and saying that negelcting children is wrong in some well publicised cases.
To me that is a massive contradiction and absurd so I was wondering if someone to explain it to me.

Faith
true, but surely its pointless if it is such a contradiction?

sunflower seed
this has been going on for a while now and lots of different people have used the word incorrectly. This question was not directed at anyone in particular.

Well, a paedophile is someone who abuses children. He/she doesn't neglect them. In fact, they pay too much attentionto them but it is two totally different crimes.
The same was said a couple of days ago by Shambo about McCann supporters.
The only time you can be a paedophile is if you sexually abuse a child or get enjoyment from watchng someone else do it.
So, like me, you are not a paedophile and it is ignorant to say so.

That's the problem with the 'p' word, it takes on a life force of its own, bringing within its remit any sexual activity that the user cares to include. It's a rabble rousing term. He's a 'P', lets get him.

I have always disapproved of such emotive words, because they don't, as we used to, define the precise nature of the crime committed.

For example, technically, the term could be applied to describe both of the following acts - sex between an eighteen year old and a fifteen year old with consent, and sex between an adult and a child under twelve, obviously without consent.

I have tried to argue that I don't accept use of the 'p' word even when it is more appropriately applied. You will gather, therefore, to use it in the way you have described is patently ridiculous. But again, as I have stated, using emotive language like the 'p' word encourages vagueness and misuse.

Wow, good question. In my humble opinion, I think if people thought about the right description for an act then there would be less confusion and definitely less vitriolic answers. When I was away in the army for long stretches at a time I did feel that I had neglected my children, wonder what that makes me?

every contributor on here is entitled to their opinion, no matter how muddled, empty headed and without basis it may be
as long as this is presented in a clear and non abusive form.
the problem arises when foul and abusive language and thinly veiled threats are used
it is conceivable that people who disagree with child neglect could be paedophiles, neglect is only one aspect of abuse, although it is my opinion that i have not read anything on these postings from either side of this debate advocating the sexual abuse of minors, and if only the extremists who contribute would go away a reasonable structured debate could be undertaken

Of course its a contradiction. It just proves that their is a limited amount of intelligence amongst some posters who throw the insults around.

Here is ur answer 'barbie doll'. Many people rightfully disagree with child neglect. But there are many on here who have an unhealthy, compulsive obsession and prurient interest in the intimate details of the McCann case. We also know that the net is a grooming ground for paedophiles (read Wendy Alexander MP's article about electronic stranger danger). It does not take a rocket scienctist to put the 2&2 2gether! I believe in fact that subversively we are all being subtly 'groomed' or brainwashed in2 thinking that any parental neglect is a justification for child abuse. Read their posts and profis (those that aren't blocked 4 obv reasons)-they are full of the most hideous suggestions and threats. These people need locked up where hopefully they will get their comeuppance from the rest of their gaol inm8s!
'barbiedoll' lol go back and get some education dear! (You haven't even the semblance of a clue in this matter, nor the remotest cognisance of how damaging your statement is in promoting child abuse!)Then perhaps you can begin to discuss and dispute matters. All that your ignorant response does is lend strength and coherence to my cogent argument. (some words for u2 look up in the online dictionary!)

Barbie, the people in question are just here to wind everyone up and stir up feelings in order to get attention. They enjoy seeing the results of their pathetic little postings as it gives them satisfaction and the attention they crave. They know what they are saying is rubbish, but they know it gets a huge reaction from us decent folk, and that excites them, sad but true. xx

Think you need to be more precise.

Thankx Barbie. (Don't know why I got thumbs down !)
All I can say is perhaps if they are Paedo's, and they
are saying neglect is wrong - perhaps they are using this
as a cover up for their own behaviour. They
are sick people anyway so we don't know how their minds work. And how do we know they def. are paedos. They
could just be winding us up, as many do on here. Just to get
a response. Good question though (once I got my head
round it!!) Minxy.

Yes but try telling certain people that and you get a mouthful of abuse. This is what passes for debate amongst people who dont have a couple of brain cells to rub together!
