I've been reading about this sort of thing for a while, and I really don't understand why you can't wear a pantyliner rather than a pad while swimming. They're smaller and shouldn't disintegrate if they get wet; some of them are more plasticy than papery.
Sorry if this sounds really dumb... I don't get some of the more obvious things sometimes.

A pantiliner is only for daily discharge throughout the month, it isn't strong enough for periods. Pantiliners and pads will also absorb and retain the water and become useless. Also, don't pay attention to the people who tell you your flow stops in water.. it doesn't! It will only wash the blood away and make you embarassed. The only way to keep things completely sanitary while in the water is to use a tampon or a menstrual cup. Best of wishes!

Well you can't use a pantyliner to swim whit it will fall out and someone will see and if you use a tampon its more hygienic and more appropriate no one will see it and no one will even know ! if a pantyliner get wet it will absorb water and it will make a big mess in you're costume

A pantyliner will not be strong enough to tend to the flow if a girl has a heavy period flow. This would also be a great question for the companies that make pantyliners and pads.
