There's a war against terror ... (which the oil companies and its shareholders are vehemently involved in)

There's a war against cancer, social anxiety, and ADHD (which the pharmaceutical companies are glad to be a part of)

Yet -- there is no war on homelessness. Why? says comedian George Carlin. Because there's no money in that cause.

How many of you believe this is true?

Man, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out does it? Of course it's money! By the way I am THE ALL AMERICAN CAPITOLIST PIGMAN!!!!

Believe it or not I was in the old run down part of Texarkana today at a bar and I went outside and helped a drunk homeless man that had fallen get to the liquor store across the street. Then as I was walking back to the bar another one panhandled a quarter from me and told me he was trying to bumb enough $ to get him a bottle of liquor. When I left the bar an ambulance was at the liquor store for the first guy. Look at all the money that's going to cost!

Money can be made on any and everything, even homelessness. For example shelters, clinics and job services for the homeless could be privatized but supported by something like faith-based grants. The private enterprises could charge the government 10 times their overhead, and no one would batt an eye.

I think the main reason there is no war on homelessness is that right wing ideology looks down on the poor and unfortunate and tells them to bootstep themselves into sanity and an orderly life. Republicans say that all people, (other than rich individuals and corporations) do not need government help, and are made lazy by it. Capitalists need concessions and tax breaks from government so that they can "grow the economy", and then the common people, including the poor and disabled can take care of themselves.

The homeless are often too costly to take care of, too costly to re-integrate (when/if it's possible), etc..And it falls in the hands of local/municipal governments, not the Feds responsibilty (unless the people push enough for it). But yes, George C does speak the truth & lobbiest are there because of financial backers protecting their interests

Homelessness is not what most people expect.. I've worked at a shelter and 99% of the people that are homeless are that way due to Mental illness or some kind of addiction (Drug, Alchol).. It's a very hard fix, because for the most part the ones that are in that state have to fix themself for there to be any sort of result..

There is a war against homelessness, see the war on poverty for details.

The ironic thing is you do not hear the Democrats whining we should pull out of that war, and that one has cost TRILLIONS of dollars and countless lives.

Yes I agree there is no money in it. George Carlin is so good at reading people.

Good Question.

It is the money - we are not spending enough on mental health care for our citizens and now for returning vets as well. You can't run a nation well "on the cheap" like we have been trying to do. You get what you pay for.

There is a war on poverty. It has cost trillions and accomplished nothing. Do you advocate spending trillions more on another set of social programs that are doomed to failure.
