education on the U.S.; I travel a lot and students in the Ukraine and Russia know more about the U.S. than most U.S. adults.

We're ignorant about most countries in the world. We are beyond materialistic and self absorbed. We take prescription drugs like candy and we're fat.

This country is a mess and the denial is thick.

How we can care so much about other countries that we will give them billions of our dollars even though they hate us and don't care if we disappear off the face of the planet.
We must look so stupid to so many.
How we will spend hundreds of billions of dollars in Iraq and can't get simple funds to help our cities with more cops and better water services etc. etc.
How we can go in and blow the crap out of a nation and turn around and pay our hard earned money to pay for it's reconstruction over and over again. Are we idiots?
In the days of old if we had to take out a country we would keep the spoils of war.
Heck doesn't someone somewhere on this stinking planet owe us a few dollars?
If we took just part of the over 200 billion from just Iraq and spread it amongst our own people, many would not be hurting right now.
Shouldn't we be getting at least a break on the price of oil from Iraq? Yet we pay more now than ever before.
Do the math.

The fact that being ignorant is considered so "cool" is definitely something that we all should be concerned about. People today are not ashamed and are even proud of being ignorant about the most basic things. Unfortunately, many Americans are not just ignorant about the rest of the world, but about things that are happening in this country. True democracy cannot survive without informed citizens.

What bothers me most about America to day is Americans with nothing better to do than think things to be bothered about.

The way in which information, especially world news, is severely limited. I don't think most Americans are dumb, they are just ill-informed. This leads to strange things gaining more prominence, like Christian fundamentalism. The lack of balance in the way that religion is portrayed is a real worry.

Little horror chucky.
With the web-size growing by the day without being aware of the mess out there.
That may soon be out of control.
Who scare the hell and living daylights out of the misery of school children screaming and running away from schools without being aware of the mess created in own backyards.

Silly Americans that hate their own country and sympathize with the terrorists Muslims. I would change this. Ship them to Iran and Iraq or Syria or whereever and see how they like that.

I have to agree with "ice4444" but, I would like to add this " ask not what your country can do for you but, what can you do for your country"

Maybe to many of us today complain about what our Government is or, is not, doing for us. Maybe it's about time we sit down and take an interest, ask what we can do to change things, instead of carping all the time and running our politicians down and complaining about it, do something about it.

Start writing our Representatives, our Statesmen, let them know what we like or don't like. I think we've forgotten about the "voice of the people" and just complained on these columns instead.

Our Leadership!!! It is the singlemost thing influencing change, and it is the singlemost reason this country is falling back and failing terribly at addressing education, environmental issues, and the job market.
