I have an old Compaq Presario 7462, it had 64MB SDRAM and I added an extra 256MB SDRAM. It running on Xubuntu, way better than the win98 it had. It runs smooth but when wacthing videos It gets choppy. Can this be the Graphics card if so I need someone to inform me on a specific graphics card to purchase. I just want the computer for web browsing and wacthing some vidz and listening to music, nothing special. I would so appreciate Im not good at this been doing alot of reading and getting by slowly with it.

It could be the video. The best kind of cards to buy for Linux are usually Intel cards. NVidia cards are sometimes acceptable as well. I don't see who made your video card, but I would bet it was a S3 or ATI. You don't need to buy a NEW card, just a high quality one.

Also check to see if your codecs are up to date and that you have all the ones you need,

That sounds like a computer from yesteryear You need a new puter I got a little AMD duron 1.2ghz in my home built computer And a little 128mghz graphics card. And I can do anything with my puter. I watch a lot of videos and movies and its not choppy.

You definately need an upgrade. A full upgrade! Donate that POS to goodwill. The cheapest Wal-Mart machine runs circles around that. Seriously though... If it has a PCI slot available a 128mb video card will help you out and upgrade to 512mb memory. Good luck...
