I've just found out that the name I've used all my life for school, SS, marriage, my kid's birth cert's.is not what is on my State BC. I've used a city clerk's certified BC. My mom must have lied to me & the city to get it but i.e.; the local BC has Jane Smithems (not my real name) & John for father & Mary for mother. The state (legal) one shows I was born Jane McSmith--my mother said my dad died when I was a baby (ha!) & dropped the Mc & added on EMS. What do I do now? There is no Birth Cert. for the person I am & no history for the new name? Is there any kind of document or B.C. that could show Jane McSmith AKA Jane Smithems or something like that? One is my REAL name & the other is the name I've had all my life. On the state BC it shows my dad as John McSmith & her real maiden name but I care mostly abt my own birth certificate. I don't want to legally change any other records - Only show that 2 names = me. Help anyone?

You can legally get a name change to the name you presumed was yours all along or if you compelled to uphold your fathers name, you simple take your original birth certificate to the SSN office, explain your circumstances that you want to set the record right. You continue till you cover all bases and changed your name to reflect the one on your BC.

The best idea is to check this with a lawyer. Bcz every country has it's own rules and legislation. Only a lawyer can advice you as per the rules and legislation of your particular country.
