The no of electrons and protons always remains the same when an atom is neutral (that's because the electrons and protons have equal opposite charges -which cancel out when they are in equal numbers). If the atom is electrically neutral,(unless it's an ion-a charged particle;in which they are not equal in number) then it has the same number of electrons and protons. In this case(the isotope),the neutrons(neutral particle-no charge) number has increased and not the number of protons or neutrons.Hence, the atom has 6 electrons

Hi,

In a neutral carbon atom, you will have the same number of electrons as protons, namely, six. The number of neutrons is irrelevant.

6.in an isotope only the number of neutrons change

The electrons don't change between isotopes, so there are still 6.
