I've had mixed answers with this. I always thought he was Republican, but maybe I just didn't get it...?

Stephen Colbert is a Democrat stating that he has no problem with Republicans but argueing over specific Republican policies, unlike John Stewert he doesn't take politics as seriously and for the sake of ratings trys to lampoon both sides, often leaning towards lampooning Republicans because they're in office.

Colbert was on NPR npt very long ago. He said that he was most inspired by Geraldo Rivera's certainty that every single report was going to change history.

The thing that was even funnier was that the guy who puts "The Week In God" on his show is actually a devout Catholic.

The funniest thing of all, though, was seeing him at the Republican function where they apparently didn't gt that he was a joke beore they hired him.
He said something like "they say the recent personnel changes are like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Well it isn't! The Titanic was a ship that sank, but this administration is SOARING!! It's more like rearranging the deck chairs on the Hindenburg!"

The poor Republicans didn't know what to do.

He's a satirist, and a very good one at that.

The Stephen Colbert of the The Colbert Report is just a fictional figure. Colbert made up this character to satirize pundits like Bill "Papa" O'Reilly.

Yeah, I can't figure it out either. But I'm pretty sure he's mocking, just by the way he talks to his guests. It sounds like he first humors them by listening and being interested in what they have to say, and then throws their own words back in their faces when they contradict themselves. Of course, he often oversimplifies things, but then, he IS an entertainer.

he is taking shots at the ultra pro american stance. I think he is a very smart guy who probably knows more about politics than most of the news people on legit chanels but he chooses the funny route
