My laptop monitor won't turn on, the processor is running, and everything seems like it works correctly, even though the monitor is on, I have tried to hook up an external monitor, but I think I need to be able to see the screen for it to work. Any suggestions to get my monitor to work? Any details needed?

Try pressing the "Fn" key if you have one, plus one of the "F" keys at the top (F5, I think). This will switch you to an external monitor. The icon on the key should look something like a square.

Sometimes, on older laptops, the little button that signals that the lid is closed gets stuck a lot. Check for that.

Do you see anything at all when you power on? Anything?

Have you tried booting up into SAFE MODE? That might help you to diagnose what's wrong and also to try connecting the second monitor.

To boot up in Safe Mode you generally press the F8 key right after you power on and before Windows loads. A Safe Mode boot-up uses only the minimal of drivers needed to start Windows.

If you can see something in Safe Mode, then it's probably another issue. It could be that your start up boot sector is damaged, or you have a bad driver for some device, etc.

Have close by your Windows XP CD as you can boot from the CD and it does have a "Repair" option. You'll see that if you insert your XP CD and boot from it.

Can you get into your system BIOS settings? Try pressing your F2 key or ESC key right after powering on. If you can see your BIOS then it's probably not your monitor or screen.
