I have an Alienware Bot desktop whose CPU keeps overheating (apparent design flaw in the Bot line). It is an Intel P4, I believe a 775 chipset.
Can anyone recommend a specific CPU fan I can buy to replace what it came with, preferably one that does not sound like a jet engine, as the CPU fan it came with does.
thanks!

Measuring the temp with a program called Speedfan.

Hi,
The Intel P4 for the 775 chipset should have the heat problem fixed. Maybe your cooler is not properly attached to the CPU? Have a proper heat glue fixed in between the CPU and the cooler.
Check in the BIOS that your CPU is not being over clocked!
The Celeron version is known for the heat problem.
Good luck with it!

What is the temperature of the CPU,,and how are u measuring it, Just saying it overheats does not give enuf info for someone to help you.
ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS
The problem appears to be the heat sink is not properly seated, it seems like the heat sink is not making good contact with the CPU. Try to reseat the heatsink, completely wipe out the old thermal paste and apply new thermal paste following the instructions on applying the thermal paste. This will most likely fix ur problem.. Good Luck

Cooling options:
-Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
-Thermalright Ultra 90 if space inside PC is tight
-Thermo-electric cooler from Chill Tec
Improve case ventilation with better fans from SilenX
If your Pentium has Hyperthreading, try turning it OFF, possibly in BIOS.

Zalman CNPS 9700 or the 9500. Both are big and a bit expensive but since you've got Alienware I'm sure cash is not a problem
