I have a friend who lives under the control of a crazy *** mother. For 17 yrs we cannot visit or talk on the phone without her eavesdropping and controlling the conversation. I don't talk to him, I end up talking to her through him. Neither have any friends of social life. They have both been scamming disability SSI for over 7 yrs.
I am not this type of person and I have worked since I was 14,I am 36 and happy. Once in a while I will get sick of his paranoid crap and hang up.
My question is; How do I tell him in a polite way that I am not interested in his crazy ways of thinking. He is 38 and has become quite a Narcissist and quite verbally abusive. Any suggestions will be appreciated.Thank you.

Good answers, but it's easier said than done. He constantly tries to bully me and he is in Tx. and I'm in In. now. I have no respect for liars/cheats/thieves. He does this because he is being bullied by his crazy mom. It took alot of soul searching but I reported the SSI scam a few weeks ago. They are both religious zealots also. I think I just need to grow a sac and tell him the truth. He is stealing from taxpayers, and I know this and I don't want to be involved and I think we should end our friendship. Keep the great suggestions coming.

Friends are in our life for a season. Sometimes friends become toxic and it is time to cut off all ties with that person. Change your phone number or block his calls. Don't talk to him anymore. Move on with your life.

honesty is the best policy. you don't want to be too polite because the message may not get across to him, and the situation could carry on ad nauseum.

when a relationship turns toxic we find ourselves torn between the person that once was, and the person that now is. be straight with him, kind, but firm. tell him what you have just said in your question. people that negatively influence your life need to be let go.

Why would you even care about being polite? The guy and his mother are scammers. Which tells me that they are pretty thick skinned anyway. Simply tell him that his lifestyle is not something that you want to be associated with, therefore you would apreciate no further contact.

I'd just distance myself. You said yourself their nothing like you. Tell him you think the FBI is watching you. Maybe if he's that far gone he'll believe you.
Maybe you need a change of scenery?
Sometimes silence is golden. Just stop going out of your way to initiate communication.

just end the relationship if you call it one and just stop anserng phones etc. that is he way to deal with him and dont' tell him you turned them in that is not the way to do it let them wonder and be quiet and find a different friend.
