He comes off to me and to others as a Mr. Fix It. Why does he also give uninvitied advice and states that his method is better if you just try it and if you don't he gets offended. By the way I am older than him by 4 years and have experienced things already that he tries to school me on.

The fact that you're older then him makes him feel like he has something to prove whether he says it or not. Older women are a conquest for men and they consistently question why you chose them. By being Mr. Fix it and by trying to do things correctly he is trying to prove that he is still the man in the relationship. Men need to feel like they are the strong ones in the relationship and like they can do something for you. By doing this he's asserting his dominance in the relationship while trying to make you feel like you're protected all at once. He doesn't do it to offend you. If you sat down and told him this i think it may work. Good luck hope this helps!!!

In a word, insecurity on his part. It seems he feels the need to prove himself.
