Strangely enough, it's not the nicotine but everything else that is terrible, all those horrible additives. If someone even smokes a pipe it is better. And no way as addictive as cigarettes. It might even be the additives that produce the addiction. There are so many ways to help to stop. One really big way is to really enjoy it. No furtiveness, no anxiety over it. You might have seen how some people smoke marijuana, holding the cigarette, taking in a puff and then just going with that? This slows things down, lets the person get the most out of it. And this can lead to 'getting a grip' and seeing if indeed smoking is really great. And when one is done, think about how you'd like one more right away. Likely not, why not? This is a different approach to stopping smoking. Someone I knew just did it through Behavioral Mod and it really went well, took time though. He liked not 'having' to smoke, not needing it. There are new things on the market now that even eliminate the smoke. But it will mostly help to develop an inner sense of calm without needing a cigarette for this.

Within the first day you'll feel energized! Within the next couple of days you will breathe much easier. Within a week you can start smelling things you couldn't smell before. And down the road you start feeling more alert and healthier.
