A 56k modem is NOT a broadband modem, that's why you're having trouble connecting. A regular phone modem (like your 56k modem) works in the sub-4kHz band on the telephone line, the portion used by POTS ("plain old telephone service", it's really called that). Broadband ADSL uses the frequency band above 4 kilohertz on the phone line to allow much, much faster transmission rates but it requires a special ADSL modem. That's what they rent to you.

the answer is NO you need a broad band modem to make a connection
you can buy your own broadband modem it will be cheaper than renting one from the ISP. though this company don't seem to be a good company if they did not inform you that a dial in modem would not work,
and just sold you the service. and will not configure the connection if you have your own modem

In short, no.
A 56k modem is good for a dial-up connection.
Broadband refers to the use of the phone line, but not in competition with your phone. It requires a broadband modem or wireless connection depending on your provider.
They are not compatible technologies.

56kbps modem is made for dial up provider. adsl modems are created from broadband provider. those 2 centers are completely distinctive for this reason modems at the instant are not comparable. the two take a adsl modem on hire from bsnl(not recomended by skill of me) in any different case bye it from any computing device shop.

you need a broadband modem
do you have dsl or cable connection?
and a ethernet port on your computer?
if you go with a trusted company like cox or bell south etc
you dont need to know much about any of this!
tho it can help!
you can get a modem at best buy or office depot for about $50+-
or ebay for $20 or less
make sure you buy a modem for the service you have! dsl or cable!
tho i would recommend you get your service provider to supply and install everything! it will cost a good bit more but will be worry free! or even try just talking to a salesman etc at a store like best buy the will tell you everything you need and will know with your area and most likely your isp if the store is local!
good luck!

your 56k is irrelevant. Your broadband provider will give you a high speed modem
P.S. They are probably assuming you have a high speed modem
