I mean does it do any good-- balance anything out? Hypothetically speaking, Would not having it, greatly effect things in nature(like having no moon would)? or is it just there to zap stupid people off the earth?

Lightning balances out the electricity that rubs off the earth from the weather. If it didn't happen, the atmosphere would get more and more charged. So yes, it does form a balanced system.

Plus, it's God's "smite" button.

Lightning can provide the nutrients to the soil that chemicals we use can't, such as nitrogen. It's also a very beautiful phenomon, during an evening thunderstorm as long as the lightning stays in the sky.

its gods way of killing stupid people off. no, it allows the negative ions to balance out the positive ions. air and earth become neutral once again.
