it confused me at first too
but it turns out that those green dots represent the helmets
that have the speakers in them so the can hear what the coaches are saying about the plays and what not
i found out at the eagles game on friday
the single them out and get better care than the rest of the other helmets and are taken better care of
because of there cost

Besides the obvious reason stated here, to point out which helmet contains the radio communication equipment, the green dot is used to allow the referees to make sure only one person on the field has this helmet. Only one person is allowed to have the radio helmet, usually the quarterback. In the past, some teams would have more than one person on the field with the radio helmet for trick plays and such. Now, this would result in a penalty.

The green dot indicates that it's a quarterback's helmet, which has a mike and receiver in it so that the QB can talk to the coach during the game while on the field.

The green dot means the helmet is supplied with a radio so that the player, usually the QB, can receive the plays from the sideline with out the use of hand signals

It shows they're wearing radio receivers in their helmets. The rule says only one offensive and one defensive player can wear them on the field at a time. The green dot shows who's wearing that particular helmet.

You know in the Supermarket for bulk Items they put a sticker on them to let staff know they are "Paid For". It is kind of like that so scouts and other teams do not try to make a contract offer to your Quarterback. Ever notice if a back up comes in and the original starter is not wearing the Green Dot. It means he goes "back on the shelves" he needs to a new price scan and marked down to seem more appealing to other teams. Of course they always go in the "Live Bait" Section.

To let other players know that its the QB's helmet. They have a communication device in there to communicate with coaches. This question has already been asked, I know that you've seen it before. Plus they've said it a million times on TV already.
