Should I try to find a silver or goldsmith, or can a regular mall jeweler fix things.

I'm going to let you borrow my timespace machine...it will take you back to the time before the jewlrey needed to be repaired now deposit 0.75 cents in the jar and you will receive further instructions if you don't have the money pull the lever to the right...

A reputable mall jeweler will do just fine. They may have to send the items out to be done.

Most mall jewellers are way too expensive! Try http://www.goldmisers.com , they are totally trustworthy, do excellent work and are CHEAP. You can even mail the stuff (just be sure to get a receipt)
