Final fantasy 12 - how do you get combos?

i dont know how to get combos my guy with the hammer doent do combos alot but my guy with the katana does combos alot why is that and i also would like to kno whats so great about guns the damage sucks but they cost so much

each weapon type Katana , sword, great sword, hammer, staff, etc has its own properties and speed
the faster weapons like katana,daggers, and ninja swords have a greater chance of gettin mutiply hits, then spears, hammers, axes and such...

The above poster is correct, but there are also accessories that can improve your chances for combos, suck as the Genji Gloves.
