I've used my desk top PC for the past year and it has all my info, music, and other stuff on it and I feel comfortable using it...however it would be very heavy and take up a lot of desk space at college. I also have an iBook G4 (Mac laptop) which doesn't have as much of my stuff on it but is easier to carry and set up and stuff, which one should I bring or both?

For college you can't beat the versatility of a labtop (and I am a desktop type of person). You can lock it up when not in use and you can take it with you to the student center of library when working on term papers and such. You can always transfer your music. I would get an external harddrive, even the larger ones (500GB) are getting cheaper. And when it boils down to it, the only other thing you would need is an iPod.

A laptop is useful, take it to class or out in the park to study. But if it will help, having both would be good. You would have a backup. Maybe the laptop would be just for school work.

Laptop, that way you have a reason to come home. Also you don't have to worry about your roommate stealing your stuff off your computer when you're not in the room.

I hope I get a laptop when I go to college, which will be in fall of '08, scary!

Many applications runs only on Windows platform. Not commons one though, so it depends. Also you'll have to look at your hardware specifications and decided base on what you need.

Generally, laptop offers more mobility at the cost of functionality. To most user the drawback is not a big issue, but it does becomes big issue if you need to have large hard disk space (multiple hard disk drive), and more importantly, processing power.

i personally wouldn't bring both, just cuz the dorm room's really small, and sometimes 2 computers would just get in the way. transfer some stuff from your desktop onto the laptop via thumb drive. that's what i did...

Transfer what you have on your PC to your laptop. Make sure you have your laptop with you at all times, don't leave it. loan it to anyone. Make sure when you have it ingraved with your name, info on it, so if it gets stolen? The police can trace it back to you. Insure the hell out of it too. This way, if it gets stolen, you can get reimbursed for it to get a new one.

Just take your lap top (space is a premium). You can save everything you think you might want from your PC onto a thumb drive and take that instead.

Transfer all your desktop stuff to your laptop and take your laptop! Easier for you to tote plus you can take it with you if you go off campus!
