It is my personal opinion only, but here goes: I think they belong to an elite group that truly think they are on the side of right and righteousness. The Conservatives do not have the market cornered on God, righteousness or the truth. What they do have is a solid belief that they are right and everyone else who is different from them or believes something else is wrong. I can concede a point to them here or there, but they seem to all too frequently take it too far. I believe in the gospel of inclusion and therefor embrace homosexuals, people of color, mixed marriages, women who have made the right to choose their right and I do not believe that people who oppose this war are aiding and abetting the enemy. To the contrary, I believe that those who dare to oppose the war are the true patriots. I believe that to lead by creating an atmosphere of fear and "terror" and to then call anyone who opposes you "unpatriotic" a lot closer to Nazism that most people can imagine. Conservatism in this country has turned dangerous and they know that the only way to perpetuate their ideals is through their own dogma. To concede any point, even a little is to lose their way of life.

odechiro? There is no such thing as a gospel of inclusion. What you are saying is that you are taking a completely unbiblical, un-Christlike approach to issues that God has clearly and decisively called sin. And what I just wrote is not closemindedness. It is called being a Christian and obeying God's word.
As far as closemindedness among conservatives goes, the cons on this site are doing what our elected representatives are not. Sticking to conservative values and refusing to forsake our core beliefs. There is nothing wrong with that.
However, it is most assuredly a case of the pot calling the kettle black when any lib accuses a con of being closeminded and furthermore it is the height of hypocrisy for an answerer like odechiro to call war protesting and not supporting our troops "true patriotism." First of all, the libs have been pushing the same agenda for decades now and they are growing more and more socialist as they pander to the extreme left. Second, if we had not fought the revolutionary war, none of us would be here with the freedoms we enjoy. Sometimes war is necessary and must be waged to cause much needed change. There is nothing wrong with desiring peace. It is the length to which one will go and the wickedness that they decieve themselves and others into believing as righteous that make a desired goal wrong. Calling traiterous behavior, profane and disrespectful speech toward the President as can be witnessed frequently on this site, and slanderous unfounded accusations towards our troops patriotism is just plain wrong.
If you really want peace, then you will have to let the war in Iraq reach a conclusion. Until we finish the terrorists, there will be no peace!!!

It just seems that way because the ideas coming from the left are so unrealistic that they don't even deserve any consideration.
Examples:
Universal health care (think VA, DMV, IRS, etc....)
How about let's tell the enemy when we are going to leave?
English as the official language? Not if the left has any say about it.
How about Social Security for illegal immigrants? Sorry, I'm "closed minded" about that issue, too.
There's lots more examples, but you get the drift.

Why would you think they are close minded? And why would
they be any different than the rest of us, as far as taking care
of number one?
I don't know any cons, but I would like to hear what you
base your accusation on, to see if it's justified.

We're aware of history, what's worked for a country, what's not worked.
We don't like to repeat mistakes.
Why are liberals so intent on revisiting strategies that have destroyed superpowers before us?

This has been asked so many times....it IS a mystery though, isn't it? Maybe they just don't like change...or...maybe they can't see the forest for the trees!
