I am currently on the depo shot which ive heard is the most potent of all birth control. I have also been on a lot of high powered antibiotics at the same time... I have heard that some birh control can be cancelled out with antibotics though... The thing that is worrying me is that im having a lot of pregnacy sypmtoms and i was just wonderinf if the depo shot can be affected by antibotics??
Thanks

Yes you can get pregnant on the depo shot. I know a few who have.

NO contraceptive (including mirena, the shot, the implant, etc) is 100% effective. ONLY abstinence is.

If you are concerned you are pregnant get tested.

It may depend on the anitbiotics, but I have read that the depo shot does not become ineffective when you are taking antibiotics, like the pill will. I was on cipro for about a month for a kidney infection, and I am on depo and didn't have any problems. I have noticed, though, throughout the five years I've been on depo that there have been times where I've had a lot of pregnancy symptoms like nausea in the morning, weight gain, irritablility, soreness, etc and all the tests have always turned out negative and I've had no kids! I think it's just the way the shot effects your body that's producing the symptoms.

Read about your antibiotics and see if it interacts with any birth control products. You also could go down and ask your local pharmacy and or get a pregnancy test. I was on Depo for 2 years and thought I was pregnant like 20 times... that was partly due to the fact that I knew a few different people who got pregnant while on depo. The shot is 99% effective WHEN used correctly... they say that if 1,000 people got their shot on time for a year only 3 of them would get preg. Also, if you got the shot late then it lowers the effectiveness. Below is a website that may help you. Goodluck
