It has been reported that coverage of the war has gone down. However, it seems to me, as news on the war has gone down coverage of silly news(Paris Hilton, Spears etc.) has gone up.

But I suppose that's important to some peope too - so I'm an old fuddy-dud.

Bit of both, in my opinion.

The Iraq war is viewed as "old news". Media networks always want something new, something exciting. The occupation of Iraq is easily the most important foreign event for the United States currently, but daily logistical movements of troops are apparently not as exciting as " Lohan is in rehab!!"

The majority of the public dislikes the news. Seeing dead troops depresses people and makes them want to change the channel. Very few want to view serious issues and thus instead delve into pop culture that can be gossiped about.

And by the way, I'm 18 and I find silly news to be repugnant.

We're not at war anymore, "to our standards for war." Our soldier's never really come home from any war. We keep them there forever (unless we lose.) Every 4 or 5 years we start a new "standard war" to draw audiences away from the old place we never left. Yes, we are disinterested and ready for the next war that will get our economy out of this slump. It should be coming up soon. That doesn't make me cold hearted on war, just a little more informed about American culture than the rest. That edge is what draws the line between media and their audience. Also, to keep the show interesting, media has to back off for a piece otherwise the next "standard war" will have no climax of interest for their audience. It's all about grabbing more viewers to make more money off of advertising. That is the real cold hearted part.

Coverage has gone down because there's no video footage of anything but terrorist attacks inside the "green zone" of Baghdad or other part of that city. That's because most of those "crack" reporters are holed up at the Palestine Hotel.
Remember, in TV news if there's no pictures (or you can't find a background graphic to use behind the anchor desk) it isn't a story.

It's because more Americans seem to be more interested in the lives of Paris Hilton Lindsay Lohan Britney Spears etc. than worrying about the what's happening to our troops overseas. It's very sad when the lives of Hollywood celebrities they don't even know seem to be more important to them than the troops.

Well what's new there that's worth covering? Another suicide car bomb? Heard it a million times. Another kidnapped guy? Heard a million times. Iraqi Parliament voted down the 2475768th revision of the constitution? Heard it a million times...
