My mom told me I need to start seeing a gynecologist when I'm 18(in October). I won't be sexually active. Is it still suggested that I go see one or should I wait until I'm actually sexually active?

I went when I turned 11.

I think you should go either after you start to get your period, before you have sex, or if you have any issues with your body.

You should start seeing one now! As soon as you have your first period then you should have pap smears every year to test for cervical cancer.
I was not sexually active until I was 19, I saw a gyno long before that.

The correct time to start seeing an OB/GYN is either at the onset of sexual activity or at age 18, your mother is correct.

I hope this helps.

It's a good idea to know that everything is alright down there before you become sexually active.

i think it is a good idea, because there are things such as ovarian cancer that pop up unexpectedly....your vaginal health is just as important as your general health. I went when i was 18 and i found out that i had a yeast infection and i didn't have any idea!!

If you are not sexually active and have no problems no need to see a gyno. Don't worry when you become active you will see your gyno enough times that it would compensate for all the times you were not seeing her.

yes, you need to start getting a yearly pap smear to make sure you don't have cervical cancer, which is easy to treat when detected early but hard to treat when discovered later on.
