Earlier today, I was playing Sims 2 when water spilled from behind my laptop. I was adjusting my mouse's wire during that time, so I evidently knocked it down. Once I saw the water, I picked up my cpu, but I was afraid of getting shocked so I dropped it. The drop wasn't severe enough to cause any damage, plus it fell on a plastic binder. But now, my laptop doesn't start. The monitor light turns on, but the screen's black and the rest of the machine doesn't run. Plus, the monitor light turns off a bit afterwards.

Any resolution on this?

This morning, the computer booted fine, but I got a screen asking to set date and time. I pressed F1 to continue booting and the laptop worked smoothly. When I clicked on the clock to fix the date (it said July 2005) The computer froze. I tried booting it again and I got the same thing that happened last night: monitor light flicks on, but the machine, or fan, doesn't run.

It could be a hard drive problem. Do you see the BIOS screen. Its the screen you see when the computer first starts off. If not, the problem is more severe. Open your lapop and leave it out in the sun for a day or so. You might try blowing through the vents with a hair dryer. If possible open the memory and hard drive hatches on the bottom of your laptop. If you dont see results right away, wait about 2-3 days. By then if you still see nothing then its most likely gone to laptop heaven. If you DO see BIOS screen and hear clicking noises or any unusual noise, its simply the hard drive which can be replaced. If you still have a warranty then you can try to hide the damage by drying it out but 90% of the time they will void your warranty. Best of luck with this issue.

If the laptop was on and running at the time you picked it up and dropped it then you probably damaged the hard drive. This can happen even if it just dropped a short distance. Hard drives have very little distance between the disc and the reader and a sharp bump can cause damage.
Sorry.

actually, i had a similar problem. don't worry! its okay. do this: start up ur computer then wait two seconds. then hold down the power button till the screen completely turns off. wait a minute, then start it again. it should work, if not then get a laptop techinician to check ur laptop or check ur computer warranty and see if a replacement is possible.

do not plugged your laptop to ac adapter, remove the battery, let it dry, some small components has short circuited by water inside your laptop. better let somebody (technician) open your laptop components to wiped it dry or blow dry, ..the components..
i hope this still works...

good luck
