To perform the Fidelius Charm, someone other than the ones it is being cast on must agree to keep the secret. They trusted Sirius, and Sirius trusted Pettigrew. Time is tricky. There is always the chance someone will see you and try and kill you.

From what I can gather, the Lily and James were almost hidden inside the person who is the "secret keeper". Hence that they couldnt' be their own
Sirius couldn't have been saved because all the time turners were broken in the Order of the Phoenix, when they were fighting in the Ministry.
I would tend to agree though, that they should have used the time turners to kill off Voldemort and save Harrys folks

Well, for the secret-keeper inquiry. Maybe, they had to have someone outside the house be the secret keeper so someone could tell the right people where James and Lily were. Too bad Pettigrew told the wrong people too.
The time-turners are dangerous and "awful things happen to wizards who meddle with time Harry, awful things". Even though it would bring back one life at a time, going back could trigger other things to happen that may change the future, or present.

If Lily or James were the secret keeper, then if they wanted to let anyone in on the secret, they would personally have to come out of hiding to pass along that secret. Also, the implication was that if you wanted a secret kept, you needed another person to be that keeper.
Time turners were highly regulated and could not be used to change anything. Of course you could get into a circular argument that if you used one to save someone, whoever wanted them dead could use another one to kill them again etcetera until the end of the universe.

The time turners are very restricted and would have been hard to get (and not sure they would be permitted for this purpose). See Prisoner of Azkaban.
As to the not using each other as the secret keeper -- Good question. If you have any other good questions, please refer them to Ms. Rowling. I see no reason under the rules constructed in the book other than they did not choose to do so (a rather stupid mistake but people make stupid mistakes all the time) and if they had used each other as the secret keeper there would be no story except perhaps with Neville Longbottom as the chosen one.

Someone other than the people the Fidelius Charm is concealing must be the Secret Keeper. You can't keep your own secret. Second, the use of time turners is very restricted, you aren't supposed to meddle with what has already happened. This is discussed in The Prisoner of Azkaban.

A Secret Keeper, is not protected by the enchantment, so neither Lilly or James could be secret keeper.
As to your other part, excellent point, but this is the issue with many plots within novels, if they used time turners to solve every problem, there would be no story, it would be boring and repetative.

You need atleast three people for the fidelious charm to work this is why they needed another person aside from the couple.
you could not use the time turner to change how things ought to be. This was explained by hermione to Harry in book 3. They were not really supposed to intervine with destiny, you only do what you are supposed to do. They were able to free buckbeak ans sirius, and harry casted a patronus because they were supposed to and already happened. Dumbledore realized this and told harry and hermione to go back in time.

You cant be your own secret keeper, as no-one would be able to find you not even family or friends never mind enemy's.
The Time-turners were all destroyed at the M.O.M in book 5, but if they HAD used them, there wouldn't have been any stories to write now would there?
