I don't want a free one - they're crap. AVG ends important kernel processes, Avast! is just crap - so I'd like to know the best anti-virus for me to buy. Any help, please?

Thank you.

For forwardslashmaster - I'm not a genius when it comes to the process-names. One thing that always happened was that whenever my brother would log off, and let me go on, I'd log on and after about 20 seconds a BSOD would appear with "BAD_POOL_CALLER". Since I got rid of AVG, it's been fine. Also, I have a theory that it caused my iTunes to encounter errors. I did a check-disk, and it was fine. But I'm sure AVG had something to do with it.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NORTON ANTI-VIRUS, AND NORTON INTERNET SECURITY?

Norton anti-virus.

Symatec makes the best antivirus ever.
They also have a good firewall.
The rest of their products are crap, however.

If you want the best anti-virus ever made, go with Norton Anti-virus.

I am using, and I never got a virus yet!

I hope this helps.

AVG has the best Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware. You can download them for free at download.com

You can scan the whole system, just certain folders or your account and fixes and problem.

I've used Norton, Trend Micro and Semantec and they are all crap compared to AVG. It's the only Anti-V/S that works completely and that i'm not disappointed in. I have gotten viruses and bugs on the three that i mentioned. Including, over 300 with Trend Micro, which was even installed by the folks at Harvey Norman themselves.

I find looking on the Microsoft website a huge help with all types of downloads. The website is microsoft.com

It's not Norton, Norton is just the most famous. I think you will find that Kaspersky Antivirus is very highly rated http://www.kaspersky.com/ .

I repair computers and I see a lot running AVG. I have never yet seen one where AVG causes a problem of the type you describe (the only problem I can remember was with a printer installation). I wonder if this is a sign that there is something else out of whack on your machine?

Why do people still suggest to use Norton and AVG?

It is SO SO SO annoying. =[

Norton is made by a Nazi (i.e. Symantec), and it only get s a good press 'cos it is famous -- mostly because the people at PC World sell it to see whether people are experienced in computers or not. Norton wasted all of my system's resources onto what it called 'protection', but I still got infected with Zango and several trojans.

I agree with you, Avast! is meant to be okay, but it missed a few trojans on my computer.

It may interest you that the guys at CNET.com // DOWNLOAD.com use a product called 'Kaspersky'. They are not the only guys who use it. So do the USA government and the Russian agnecies, on their computers. So do I.

Norton Antivirus - is just an antivirus

Norton Internet security or Norton360, has firewall + anti-virus

Till date I have used the following:

1) Norton
2)Mc Afee
3)Nod 32
4) AVG
5)Bit Defender
6) Panda
7) Kaspersky...

I can tell you hands down Kaspersky is the best option. Go for Kaspersky Internet Security... download the free trial and check it out for yourself.

You can download it here:

If you insist on paying money for Anti-Virus software then go for Norton Anti-Virus. JUST the anti-virus software mind - don't use anything else they make!

I would interested to find out more about the problems you are having with AVG. What important kernel processes does it shut down?

I am a board certifed clinical psychiatrist and have a moral and legal obligation to keep my pc 100% clean.

Here are program I use that will give you 100% protection. Ofcourse you must also have all your critical updates installed from Microsoft.

Antivirus program I use. You only pay a one time fee of $29.99. and you get all updates and all new versions for life.

Read the webpage and if you like what you read this is the antivirus of choce I have used for over ten years and never one virus.

By culture the Chinese are very secret just about everything and that includes their software.

This antivirus program out of Beijing, China that is also used by the Government of China.

This antivirus program does not have the Govt. permission to be rated with all other known antivirus programs.

What I can assure you is that you pay only a one time fee for life that will include all auto updates, and all new versions for life. The Chinese don't believe in having to pay an annual fee for updates or new versions.

I can tell you their technology is light years ahead of any other known antivirus software out there.

If you open a webpage and there is a hidden virus it will clean in realtime. Anything that you download and has even a trace code, it will kill the download and ask you to upload the trace code for investigation. In real time the upload will tell you if it is clean or not.

Will not allow you download, Real Player, because there is a hidden file that is a trojan keylogger. The file was uploaded and traced back to the United States Army, Intelligence Services out of London, England. (Removal of the file Real Player will reject the installation).

Read for yourself at their webpage. I have never had one virus in ten plus years. Plus it will catch any progam with it's dynamic defense system, for software that you download and it does not have a publisher or lic., included.

Twister Trojan Antivirus V7

Very low on resources with scanner running in background.
