its pythagorean theorem ....

State an equation you could use to find the unknown side length in each right triangle.Then find the unknown length.

bare with me ppl : its a triangle the height part is 10 yd and the hypothesis side is 26 yd so what would the base be ???

im like too tired to think rit now so plzz

It's called a hypotenuse, not hypothesis.

Here's the Pythagorean theorem:
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
where a and b are legs of a right triangle and c is the hypotenuse.

So for your problem:
10^2 + x^2 = 26^2
100 + x^2 = 676
x^2 = 576
x = 24

edit: You know that the triangle is a right triangle if one of the three interior angles is 90 degrees (this is usually represented by a little square at that angle). The legs are the two edges that meet at that angle. The hypotenuse is the third edge.

If you were familiar with the three most common pythagorean triples you would see that the sides of the triangle are parts of one.

But since you want to use the pythagorean theorem you set up the formula:

c^2 = a^2 + b^2

But since we have the hypotenuse (c) and the height (a), we can substitute:

26^2 = 10^2 + b^2

Now just solve for b:

676 = 100 + b^2
576 = b^2
+/- 24 = b

What? We get two answers? But which one is right? Well since this is about a triangle, and triangles can't have negatives for sides then 24 and not -24 is the answer.

24 = b

Height^2 + Base^2 = Hypotenuse^2
Height = 10 yds.
Hypotenuse = 26 yds.
Base = Root (26^2 - 10^2)
676 -100 = 576
Square Root of 576 is 24 yds.

A^2+B^2=C^2. A^2+10^2=26^2, A^2+100=676

A^2=676-100 A^2=576, square root of A^2=square root of 576. A=24
