I have an old Craftsman woodworking vise and the part # is KO506-51920 I think. It is no longer available through Craftsman and I would like to know where I can get some info on the vise, like how to properly mount it and use it correctly.

Most woodvises mount underneath the bench top with 2-3 lag bolts. Or try this site www3.sears.com
You do need to mount 2 flat hardwood boards to the inside of the jaws. You will see where the mounting holes are on the jaws. Note you will want to mount your board on the jaw closest to the bench as you won't be able to once the vice is on the bench. Put the second board in the vise and close to line up the boards flush with each other before screwing in place.

Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.Here's the bottom line: If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you SHOULD use, it's something that you would be insane not to.

Without any detail as to what the part is,,,one cannot know how to advise a replacement, retrofit, MAKE DO part similar.
Mounting the vise should be an easy process, as one answer states. I have both types and they bolt through the top of the workbench.
Use of,,,,Well a usual woodworking vise has large holder plates attached to the auger, to allow less damage to a piece of wood, while allowing the largest grip area possible. Mine happen to be hard rubber.
Without knowing how old, have you attempted Sears online parts and service? It may be that even if they don't have that part, possibly they can suggest a retro fit; after market part?
Beyond all that a woodworking vise is not a huge investment. Why not buy new?

google it! but i dont understand what can be so differnt than a regular vise? drill some holes in work bench that line up and put it there then fasten it to bench, the choise is yours on where to put it or how to use it as far as I can see, i have vises of all kinds in various places to fit various things, hope that helps, and as the person about said, i like to see apicture of it too! you know you got me curious and i typed in Craftsman Vise into google and came up with all kinds of things, try it also there is a link below that may help, its a woodworking link as you can see, and good luck!
